Creative Storytelling
My love for journalism goes beyond traditional reporting. Scripted storytelling allows me more creative freedom to push the envelope and showcase my skills. I created some of the videos below for an upper level strategic communications course, while the others were on my own time.
Perfect Day
The Assignment: Create a short story about what makes my "perfect day," centered around a product or object. I did all the scripting, shooting and editing for this video. 90% of the shots were on my iPhone.
BMW: Luxury without limits
The asssignment: Create a car commercial utilizing a drone and a volunteered BMW. It was a group project and my first attempt at video advertising. I did the editing and had major inputs in the commercial's scripting. I don't have a lot of experience in targeted advertising, and I have room to improve in this area. However, I think it was a solid first attempt.
Watch Sports, Dream Big
My first short story, made at the beginning of the pandemic lockdown in 2020. It is goofy, and some of the video quality isn't amazing, but I thought it was a fun piece of storytelling. I did this completely on my own, framing up the camera on tripods without camera operators and then acting out the shots.
Time Machine.
The Assignment: Create a short story utilizing the capabilities of a GoPro. My story is about how college has flown by for students during the pandemic. For those unfamiliar with Mizzou traditions, freshman walk through the columns toward campus their first week at school, while seniors walk through the columns away from campus right before graduation. I made this central to my story.
Boone County Culture Center 360 Virtual Tour
The assignment: Use VR 360 technology to create strategic content. For this group assignment, we used Nano 360 Cameras to create a virtual tour for the Boone County History and Culture Center. I did all the editing and now know how to edit 360 video in Premiere Pro.
